dEStroYEd, 2021 is a short photo series with work curated from multiple series using different photographic mediums to create a photographic story. The series intends to combine psychological concepts with the photographic medium in order to work towards combatting some of the stigma surrounding mental illness. As a person suffering with mental illness, it is something that can affect my daily life, yet still I find it difficult to open up a conversation due to the high levels of stigma surrounding the mentally unwell, particularly those with personality disorders. The abstract nature of my work for this series is designed to open up a broader conversation, allowing others to question the meaning, content and implications of each image, and through this create a pathway to open and unstigmatised conversations about mental illness.
